Pan Helin, a member of the Information and Communication Economy Expert Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, told the China Securities Journal reporter that the electronic cigarette industry technical specifications and pricing policies have been introduced, and the electronic cigarette industry as a whole is included in the supervision, which is conducive to the long-term healthy development of the electronic cigarette industry, and is also conducive to the electronic cigarette industry to solve some current disputes. For example, the pricing of electronic cigarettes, before there was a unified specification of different prices, the introduction of detailed rules will further standardize the market pricing, so that the electronic cigarette market is more orderly.
Tianfeng Securities research report shows that according to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, from January to December 2023, China's electronic cigarette products (including electronic cigarettes and similar personal electronic atomization equipment, other non-combustion and inhalation products containing nicotine) exports reached 11.084 billion US dollars, an increase of 12.5%; Exports amounted to 233,000 tons, up 43.37% year-on-year.
In terms of market pattern, in 2023, China's e-cigarettes have been exported to 167 countries and regions around the world, 10 more destinations than in 2022. The top five export markets are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea and Russia, accounting for 31.01%, 14.17%, 7.94%, 7.05% and 5.22% of China's e-cigarette exports, respectively.
The research report also said that in 2024, many countries began to strengthen the regulation of electronic cigarette products. In the United States, for example, on January 1, 2024, New York State began implementing stricter marketing restrictions for e-cigarette and vapor products. These restrictions include prohibiting the use of e-cigarette brand names, logos, or other identifiers on non-e-cigarette products. In addition, e-cigarette brands are also prohibited from sponsoring events such as sports competitions and concerts. Some Canadian provinces will implement a tax system on e-cigarette products from July 2024.
